Away Trips for Reds’ 1s and 2s Both Beat the Frost
Dalkeith 22 – 11 Linlithgow
Having the edge up front, the Reds will be disappointed not to come away with more from this BT East 1 league match. The Reds’ try was scored by Cameron Dori-Muir, with John Strachan kicking the other 6 points.

Grangemouth 2s 0 – 19 Linlithgow 2s
This friendly match, originally scheduled to be played at Linlithgow was moved to Glensburgh. The Reds proved too strong for the home team and there were tries from Nicky Cowan (2) and James Timlin. Chris Ronalson kicked two touchline conversions. Grangemouth’s historic links to the Baltic were well demonstrated by the weather with a sub zero wind chill throughout the match!

This Week’s Headlines
Minis Excel in Trip to St Andrews
It’s great to able to report on the Mini section who, after a winter layoff in terms of matches, travelled up to St Andrews on Sunday to play against several other well known clubs at the grounds of Madras RFC. Thanks to the coaches for providing the match reports and well done to the players for some excellent performances! All teams have trained over the winter using the indoor facilities and the benefits can be seen in the team performances.
P6s Win Big!
With no rugby being played on Saturday, the Minis took centre-stage on Sunday at Madras in St Andrews. The P6s had a great day out, starting with a 4-4 draw against Hillfoots, before big wins against Dunfermline and Dundee set them up for a cracking final against the home team, which they won 3-2.
P5s Win Bigger!
Headline courtesy of coach Sammy McKee! “Another fantastic performance” with the P5s winning all 6 matches!
P4s Win Three Matches in Strong Performance
The P4s were also on song at Madras on Sunday, claiming 3 wins and only being bettered once – albeit in a very close game.
Reds Leave it Too Late at Hawick
Hawick Harlequins 18 – 17 Linlithgow
Although there was a light covering of snow, the pitch at Hawick was soft underneath and so the Reds BT East 1 away league match went ahead on Saturday. After an early try for Euan Murray, the home side scored 18 unanswered points, before the Reds came alive in the last 10 minutes with tries from Dougie Thomson and Tom Sneddon, the latter converted by John Strachan. His earlier touchline attempted conversion (see photo) had come tantalisingly close.
The Curry Quiz Night Returns
Saturday 14 February
Tickets will be on sale soon for this season’s Curry Quiz Night. It will take place on Saturday 14 February kicking off at about 7.30, giving everyone break after they have watched the Six Nations Game.
The evening does what it says on the tin. There will be a curry produced by volunteers and then Gavin and Anne will host the quiz. Tickets cost a bargain £12.00 for the whole lot. They usually go fast so look out for them.
And, of course, there will be a raffle – but, hey, we’re Linlithgow RFC. We always have a raffle.
Monthly Quiz Dates
Friday 6 March and Friday 10 April
The next two monthly quizzes will be at 8.30 pm on Friday 6 March and Friday 10 April. Please note that there will be no quiz on Friday 6 February as this clashes with the opening match of this season’s RBS 6 Nations Tournament.
President’s New Year Message
The next 2020 Bulletin will be out later this week, with its usual mix of news of fund-raising activity and progress on the project. Look out for it because it will contain information about the information and sponsorship forms the Fund-raising Group will begin to distribute over the next two weeks on Pound Round The Pitch on Saturday 14 March.
You will recall this is where we are asking as many members as possible to come along to Upper Mains Park before the Firsts game against Portobello and walk round the pitch, raising at least £10.00 each.
You will hear a lot more in the coming weeks about what is happening on the day to make it truly memorable Club day in which we can all take part. The important thing now is to make sure you get the information and forms and begin looking for your sponsors.

Our new indoor training centre is now fully operational. It was designed first and foremost for our own needs as a rugby club. However, as a community sports club we also designed it to be used by other sports and community groups.
